"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."
- Plato
What does it mean to be a Modern Scottish Rite Freemason in pursuit of the light?
Scottish Rite Masons work to improve the condition of those around them by teaching and using the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. These great components of our order serve as a foundation for our timeless wisdom to be built upon.
The nature of a man’s passage to wisdom is like that of the ancient art of alchemy. Wisdom can never be destroyed only transmuted into another form. Being able to take a base metal, and transform it into gold is like taking a good man and making him great through understanding of the mysteries of our ancient craft.
The fantastic teachings of the Scottish Rite degrees are more pertinent today than ever. In a world that appears to be rapidly changing many men are looking for a foundation to rest upon, where their fellow members share the same moral code and thirst for wisdom as they do. Masonry will give the right man, no matter his country, wealth, or profession, a handle through which he can grasp the world like never before by understanding the deeper laws that bind us together with each other and God, the almighty architect of the Universe.
