Portland Valley Scottish Rite News Blast October 20th, 2014

On Tuesday, Oct. 21st The Portland Valley will present the 21st Degree.

Dinner will start at 6 pm. Chicken Marsala will be catered by Bridges Catering of Portland. The Degree will begin at approximately 7pm.

Illustrious Brother Walt Johnson is recovering at home after undergoing heart bypass surgery.  The surgery was performed without any complications and Walt is expected to make a complete recovery.

In the 21st Degree we are admonished to be modest and humble, speaking only of the good in mankind and forgetting the evil. Slander is the exact opposite to mercy, for “Mercy blesseth him that gives and him that takes” while slander curses him that speaks it, and to say the least, does no good to the other. Our ancient brethren met to redress wrongs and defend the helpless. Masonry today has the same great mission and woe to him who would attempt to destroy it.

The apron is yellow, and contains an arm holding a sword, and a winged figure holding a key in the left hand, and the right forefinger on the lips (the “Egyptian figure of Silence”). The jewel is an point-up triangle, with an arrow, point downward, an arm holding a sword, and the motto “Fiat Justitia, Ruat Coelum.”
