Tuesday October 6th the Portland Valley Scottish Rite will be having guest speakers Kay & Roy Abramowitz who are tax Attorneys. They will be giving a presentation titled; The Tax Man and the Butterfly: Charitable Giving and Estate Planning. This event will be open to Scotttish Rite Members and their Ladies.
Kay Abramowitz has more than 30 years’ experience providing counsel to individuals and business owners on asset protection and wealth preservation through sophisticated estate planning techniques, estate and trust administration, entity formation, and business planning.
Kay’s Presentation is Titled Your Will…Your Way: Estate Planning Basics
Summary: Kay’s presentation will explain Oregon’s estate plan for you and how you can choose to do your plan your way. Kay will also explain how you can remain in control of your affairs even as you lose control of your abilities. She will conclude by describing the tools and techniques employed by estate planners and explaining differences between them. Kay will provide examples of when and why certain strategies are used and why waiting to do your planning leads to costly estate administration for your loved ones.
Roy Abramowitz is a seasoned tax professional specializing in income, estate, retirement and charitable tax planning for wealthy individuals and families owning closely-held businesses in a wide variety of industries.
Roy’s Presentation is Titled Nuts & Bolts of Charitable Giving
Summary: Roy’s presentation will explain the numerous tax deductibility rules involved with lifetime charitable giving including IRS substantiation requirements, cash vs various non-cash gifts, different types of qualified charitable organizations and limitations on deductibility. Shifting gears, he will discuss planned giving, what it means and will provide examples of planned giving opportunities. He will briefly touch on traditional planned giving vehicles such as charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities and gifts by beneficiary designation. Roy will conclude with some planning opportunities including year-end timing considerations and use of private foundations and donor advised funds
