Update of Brother Kent Cox’s Memorial Service

I have received an update of information for Bother Kent Cox’s passing. His Masonic Funeral, Memorial and Reception will be on Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church at 17405 NE Glisan St., Portland, Oregon 97230. For directions click here.

The members of Sandy Lodge No. 158, A.F.& A.M. will open Lodge at 1:00 pm, the Memorial and Funeral will begin at 2:00 pm, there will be a reception following. Scottish Rite Brethren please attend to pay tribute and our last respects to a great man and beloved Brother of our Fraternity.

Brother Kent W. Cox, 32°, Knight Commander Court of Honour Has Passed Away

Brethren,

The roll of the workmen has been called, and one Master Mason, Venerable Master of the Oregon Lodge of Perfection, Brother Kent W. Cox, 32°, Knight Commander Court of Honour, has not answered to his name. He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above. His Brethren mourn the passing of a great man and Mason.

Venerable Brother Kent Wayne Cox (Civil Engineer), was born on March 4th, 1942 in Astoria Oregon, he passed to the Celestial Lodge on Monday August 19th, 2019 in Portland, he was a 16 year member of Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, serving as Venerable Master of the Oregon Lodge of Perfection No. 1 several times and also as Director of the Work for the Portland Valley, in 2009 he was invested as a Knight Commander of the Court of Honour by the Supreme Council of the 33rd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., U.S.A., he was a Past Master and Blue Lodge member of Sandy Lodge No. 158, A.F. & A.M. of Oregon. Our departed Brother whom we now remember has entered into the peace of life eternal. He still lives on Earth in the acts of goodness he performed and in the hearts of those who cherish the memory of a great friend and Brother.

Brother William Hare 32° Has Passed Away

Brethren,
The role of the workman has been called and, one Master Mason, Brother William Hare, has not answered to his name.  He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use.  His labors here below have taught his to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above.  His Brethren mourn the passing of a great man and Mason.
Brother William Hare 32*, was born on November 11, 1927, and passed to the Celestial Lodge on Friday August 9th, 2019 in Redding Hospital, Redding, California.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen.
Brother Hare was a World War II Army Veteran and will be interred at the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon.  Brother Bill was a member of Asland Lodge #23 in Ashland, Oregon and served as it’s Worshipful Master in 2004.
He was also a member of the Medford Valley Scottish Rite and a Knight of it’s KSA Chapter.  Bill was also a member of the Hillah Shriners as well as the local York Rite bodies. 
Memorial Services will be held at the Ashland Lodge #23, date to be determined.

Brother Orval “Keith” K. Jacques 32° Has Passed Away

He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Orval Keith Jacques
June 1, 1931 – June 5, 2019
Our beloved uncle, Orval Keith Jacques, 88, died June 5, 2019, at Hopewell House Hospice in Portland, Oregon. Keith was born June 1, 1931 to Joseph Andrew Jacques and Alta Mae Violet (Beers) Jacques in Portland. He graduated from Lewis & Clark College where he met his wife, Barbara J. Fryou. Keith worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Cascade Manufacturing in Portland and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991 after 28 years of service. Keith was a long standing member of Kiwanis and The Elks. He was active in Freemasonry and attained the status of Master Mason. As a Shriner, one of his most fulfilling experiences was visiting the children at Shriner’s Hospital. He loved these organizations and spent much of his life in service work.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; and his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his nieces, Sandra McCollough-Jones (Barb), Catherine Merickel (Frank); his nephew, Kelly Fryou; his brother-in-law, Theodore Fryou (Dannie); as well as great-nieces and nephews. Keith was loved my many and his friends and family were the most important part of his life. We have been blessed to have him in our lives and will cherish him in our memories forever.

Brother Orval was a 41 year member of Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of the Al Kader Shrine, and Blue Lodge member of Beaverton Lodge No. 100, A.F. & A.M. of Oregon. 

Brother Ernest Himmelman 32° Has Passed

The roll of the workmen has been called, and one Master Mason, Brother Ernest Himmelman, 32°, has not answered to his name. He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above. Brother Ernest Himmelman was born on April 14, 1928 and passed to the Celestial Lodge on Saturday August 5th, 2019 at 91 years of age. He was a 51 years life member of the Medford Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and a member of the Hillah Shrine.  Ernest was a Past Master (1976) of Warren Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M. in Jacksonville, Oregon.  Ernie was an Army veteran and will be interred at the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery in Eagle Point Oregon alongside his Wife Patricia.  He is survived by his Son Steve Himmelman and three Daughters.

Services will be held at the Medford Scottish Rite Center, 3581 Lear Way, Medford, Oregon on August 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM.  Services will be performed by Illustrious Brother James Westerfield 33* and Brother Don Blankenship 32*.  

The Passing of Brother Roy Armentrout 32°

The roll of the workmen has been called, and one Master Mason, Brother Roy D Armentrout, 32°, has not answered to his name. He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above. Brother Roy D Armentrout was born on March 3rd, 1934 in Mound City Missouri and passed to the Celestial Lodge in on Thursday May 23rd, 2019 at 85 years of age. He was a 48 year member of Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of the Al Kader Shrine, and Blue Lodge member of Mound City Lodge No. 294, A.F. & A.M. of Missouri. He is interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley Oregon.

Brother Harold H. Smallwood, 32° Has Passed Away

He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. Excerpt from Donelson Funeral Chapel obituary; “He was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on May 13, 1934 to Tasker and Dorothy Smallwood, the oldest of three boys. Harold grew up in Texas and graduated from Burleson High School. Harold married the love of his life, Dorothy Pearl, on December 24, 1953 and they went on to raise their daughter, Sharon, starting in California and then finally settling in Oregon. Harold was very involved in the Scottish Rite, the Masonic Lodge and the Al Kader Shriners where he was a key member of the calliope core. Everyone who knew Harold knew his love for fishing, hunting and woodworking. However, there was nothing that he loved more than the great-grandkids as he was always asking how they were doing in school and extracurricular activities up until he passed. He was a loving husband and father and was completely adored by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his father Tasker Aubry Smallwood, his mother Dorothy Lois Smallwood and his brothers Richard and Robert. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Smallwood; daughter Sharon McCarty of Hillsboro, OR; grandchildren, Melissa Langdale of Hillsboro, OR; Matthew McCarty of Vancouver, WA; and two great-grandsons, Damian and Sebastian Langdale of Hillsboro, OR.”

Brother Harold passed to the Celestial Lodge in on Thursday May 23rd, 2019 at 85 years of age. He was a 29 year member of Portland Valley Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of the Al Kader Shrine, and Blue Lodge member of Tuality Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. of Oregon. He is interred at Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro Oregon.
