Our Valley Secretary, Brother David Hopkins 32°, KCCH, was invested with the rank and title of Knight Commander of the Court of Honour at a special ceremony last night at an open meeting of the Roseburg Valley Consistory of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry at the Roseburg Masonic Building.
An extremely rare and well-attended ceremonial investiture for a man who has made Roseburg home for his family. Congratulations Commander David Hopkins, the newest member of the Knight Commander of the Court of Honour.
Br. David was Knighted by Illustrious Brother Gary Kuney 33°, Active Sovereign Grand Inspector General of Oregon. This is a very rare investiture because the event is typically held biannually at the Portland Valley Temple. Because of Br. Hopkins profession as a Funeral Director he could not attend that event so tonight’s ceremony was just for Br. David.
David has been singled out for this honor because of his commitment to duty and honor, his devotion to the principles of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, and his exceptional display as a good citizen and father. Let’s face it: David is a really great guy!
Here David is kneeling while Mrs. Hopkins watches as Illustrious Brother Gary Kuney shakes Davis’s hand at the end the actual Knighting moment.
The Portland Valley announces the appointment of Brother Commander Wayne Ford, 32°, KCCH, as our new Personal Representative of the Sovereign Grand Inspector General for the Portland Valley!
We look forward to his assistance with the operations of the Valley and the continual growth and development of the Scottish Rite in Oregon.
Brethren,
The roll of the workmen has been called, and one Master Mason, Brother Don Virgil Puckett, 32° has not answered to his name. He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught him to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above. His Brethren mourn the passing of a great man and Mason.
Brother Don Virgil Puckett was born on June 15th, 1930 and passed to the Celestial Lodge on December 17th, 2018. Brother Don was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for 48 years having obtain the title of Master of the Royal Secret on November 21, 1970. Brother Don was a member of the Riddle Lodge #148 A.F. & A.M. in Riddle Oregon and has spent his later years in Wasilla, Alaska with his beloved wife. Brother Don was a prolific supporter of the Almoner’s Fund and the Childhood Language Clinic at the Medford Valley Scottish Rite.
The Medford Scottish Rite has initiated a charity donation program to allow members to contribute to the Oregon Scottish Rite Speech and Language Charity; our philanthropic endeavor.
Contributions may be made by check written to “Oregon Scottish Rite Speech & Language Charity” which is tax deductible for the year of your contribution.

Checks are to be collected by the General Secretary at the Medford Scottish Rite Business Office and will be sent to the Charity Board in Portland. After the last quarter of the fiscal year, the contributor will receive a thank you letter from the Oregon Scottish Rite Speech and Language Charity with, the appropriate tax-exempt number for their contribution as confirmation from the Oregon Scottish Rite Charity Board for submittal with your tax returns.

Speech and Language Charity Donation Program initiation ltr – 10-28-2019
The Medford Valley Scottish Rite celebrated the Feast of Tishri on October 21, 2019 with our fraternal family and friends at the Medford Scottish Rite Center.
The evening started with the members attending the Lodge of Perfection where we renewed our commitment to the principles and values of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
After Lodge, PGM Art Borland, 32° K.C.C.H. began the Feast of Tishri Dinner and Toast Ceremony in the Dining Room. Illustrious Brother Jim Westerfield spoke of the significance of this Feast in history. The Brethren of the Medford Valley Scottish Rite then presented a series of proper toasts to eminent individuals followed by a delicious catered dinner and dessert.
This significant Feast is traditionally observed by the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and was considered obligatory and especially significant to the Brother Masons of the Scottish Rite by the Supreme Council.
We are reminded of the Festival observed by the Israelites where, they gave thanks to God for the abundance of the harvest as well as offering prayers to Him to send new rains for the coming year.
We of the Scottish Rite also have much to be thankful for; the values, principles and virtues we espouse and the brotherhood and fellowship we share with our Brother Masons as well as; the grace given to us by the Deity that we have enjoyed this past year.
A great time was had by all and everyone enjoyed the delicious feast.
Many thanks to the Medford Chapter of the Knights of Saint Andrew for their support with the dinner service.
Fraternally,
Bruce A. Kundert, 32° K.C.C.H.
