Language Clinic Dedication

Brothers,

Your Scottish Rite Speech & Language Charity invites you to the opening and dedication of “Oregon Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Speech & Language Clinic”, in partnership with Portland State University.

This clinic will provide services to over 2,000 young children each year and is in the process of developing a tele-therapy program, which will bring help to children in cities throughout the state.

It has taken the Scottish Rite Speech & Language Charity board several years of hard work to create the opportunity for funding and details necessary for the establishment of this working partnership between the University and Scottish Rite.

Come join us in celebrating this auspicious event and remember if someone asks you what does Scottish Rite do?  You can point with pride to how we provide free help to children with communication issues at the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Speech & Language Clinic at Portland State University.

Rite Movie Night!
Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00 pm the Portland Valley Scottish Rite will have a movie night in the Ballroom.

The feature for the evening will be the full length documentary film 33 & Beyond: The Royal Art of Freemasonry.

In 2010, Writer and Director Johnny Royal, embarked on a 7 year journey to document and tell the story of American Freemasonry. Inspired by his own progression through the degrees of Master Mason, Knight Templar, and the 32nd Degree of the Scottish Rite, Royal gathered over 140 hours of footage consisting of interviews with prominent Freemasons, and never before seen footage from the insider’s perspective.

This is an excellent new film produced by an amazing young Brother including interviews with some of the current great minds in the Craft; it is certainly not to be missed.

Spring 2018 Reunion for the Portland Valley Scottish Rite

217

Have you as a Master Mason ever wondered about joining the Scottish Rite? Good News!
The Portland Valley Reunion and New Member Initiation this spring is being held on Friday May 25th & Saturday May 26th, 2018.

The Scottish Rite in Oregon began in Portland in 1870 headed by the first Sovereign Grand Inspector General, John C. Ainsworth, 33°, who has been followed by eleven other Honorable Masons holding that office up to the present S.G.I.G. Illustrious Brother Gary Kuney, 33º Active, appointed in 2009.

The Scottish Rite is often called the College of Masonry and this Spring we will be having a Class of new Candidates to join us in the quest for further Masonic Light. The ritual of the Scottish Rite comprises twenty-nine degrees, the fourth through the thirty-second, each of which, in the dramatic form of a vaudeville era Shakespearean style moral play, presents lessons of high purpose developing the moral character of the individual.

The theater here was built expressly for these degree presentations. Our Temple in the Historic Goose Hollow Neighborhood is the first building exclusively designed and built for the Scottish Rite Degrees and was used as a model for other Scottish Rite buildings throughout the world. It was the great architectural vision of Brother Richard H Martin, Jr, 33º who designed several other Fraternal Buildings in downtown. It is unique in still having over ninety hand painted stage drops available for the degree presentations. They were painted in the early 1900’s and are known for their outstanding perspective. The drops and fly system accompanying them are some of the best preserved in the country of their type and age. Our Temple along with being the last vaudeville era stage still in active use in Oregon, is also the oldest building in downtown Portland still occupied by its original inhabitants, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
