The Medford Valley finished off the Summer in Style (Hawaiian Style that is)
with a taste of the Islands. A wonderful time was had by all with great Hawaiian food and, a chance to don their Hawaiian clothes for one last time this summer. The Pulled Pork and Huli Huli Teriyaki Chicken was especially good!
Everyone enjoyed the chance to talk about their summer experiences and welcomed everyone back from their summer vacations. We are looking forward to start the remainder of the 2019 year here at the Medford Scottish Rite. Aloha!
Greetings Brethren,
In news of the Orient; at the most recent August 2019 Supreme Council Biennial Session in Washington D.C. our Orient of Oregon Sovereign Grand Inspector General, Illustrious Brother Gary Kuney, 33°, received a distinctive honor and I would like to take a moment to share it with you.
During the course of the Session Ill. Bro. Gary was honored by the Sovereign Grand Commander of Costa Rica, Illustrious Brother Juan José Soto Cervantes, with the distinction of being acknowledged as an honorary member of the Supreme Council of the 33rd Degree for the Republic of Costa Rica. Ill. Bro. Juan presented Ill. Bro. Gary with the above pictured medallion in recognition of this commendation. The Supreme Council of Costa Rica was originally chartered in 1871 and has been in accord for many years with our Supreme Council of the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States.
Please join me in congratulating Illustrious Brother Gary for receiving this distinction from our Brethren in Costa Rica for his service to the Craft!
Brethren,
The role of the workman has been called and, one Master Mason, Brother William Lance Costello, 32°, has not answered to his name. He has laid down the working tools of life and with them has left that mortal part for which he no longer has use. His labors here below have taught his to divest his heart and conscience of the vices and superfluity of life, thereby fitting his mind as a living stone for that spiritual building, that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Strengthened in his labors here by faith in God, and confident of expectation of immortality, he has been granted admission to the Celestial Lodge above. His Brethren mourn the passing of a great man and Mason.
Brother William Lance “Bill” Costello, 32° was born on March 3, 1946 in Cincinnati Ohio, and passed to the Celestial Lodge on August 31, 2019. Brother Costello was a member of Medford Masonic Lodge #103 in Medford, Oregon and obtained the degree of 32°, Master of the Royal Secret in the Medford Valley of Scottish Rite on April 4, 2015. He moved to the Portland area in 2017. No memorial service information has been announced at this time.

Tuesday the 17th of September, at 7:30 o’clock pm, the Portland Valley Scottish Rite will confer the 6th Degree of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America, “Intimate Secretary”.

The Duties of the Degree are; “Be zealous, faithful, disinterested and benevolent. Act the peacemaker.”
The Lessons of the Degree are; “Zeal and fidelity to duty are always rewarded.”
