2015 Spring Reunion

Friday & Saturday, April 10th & 11th, 2015

The Spring Reunion is fast approaching and now is the time to start handing out petitions at your Blue Lodge and start brushing up on your part for the degrees.

Most of the directors have provided the schedules of practices and they are posted to thecalendar so be sure to check it for dates and times.   There are still cast parts open in some degrees so anyone interested in a part contact the Scottish Rite Office for director contact information.

There is also critical  need for volunteers to assist the Rose Croix in reorganizing the wardrobe room as it needs to be completed well in advance of the reunion. Please contact the Wise Master Chris Foleen for more information on when they need help next.

For the reunion there is a need for volunteers as greeters both days, also help with setting up starting at noon on Friday and a building clean up crew for Saturday evening. If you are interested in supporting the Rite in this capacity contact the Office for more information.

The reunion schedule and times of the degrees will be published shortly when available.

It is never to early to RSVP for dinner and lunch for the reunion so, if you already know you will be here, call or email the Office right away at 503-226-7827 or email officemanager@portlandsr.com .

The Ceremony of Remembrance & Renewal
March 24th, 2015 at 7 pm
The Portland Valley Scottish Rite Ainsworth Chapter of Rose Croix will be holding our Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal on March 24th at 7 pm. This occasion is important not only in allowing us to pay our respect and honor to those who are no longer present, but also in renewing our commitment to ourselves and our Brethren. In doing so, we continue the noble work in which we are engaged.

“The Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal, including the Mystic Banquet, is not a religious observance. It is neither the Feast of the Passover nor a Sacrament of Holy Communion, although it commemorates the spirit of both days.

Chapters of Rose Croix traditionally observed the celebration of the Mystic Banquet as a memorial service honoring the Knights of their Chapter who have passed on during the preceding year. This observance strengthens the ties of brotherly love, past and present. We meet together to break the bread of fraternity, to reconcile ourselves with those we may have offended, and to drink the wine of refreshment and renewal. Thus, we celebrate the lives of our departed Brethren and promise to abide by the New Law, the Law of Love, with our present Brethren and all mankind.

In this celebration, we also commemorate the lives all those who labored to improve mankind and were rewarded with betrayal, punishment, and death. Whether poet, religious leader, scientist or social reformer, all who seek to elevate humankind may be considered as Brethren. Masonry is duty, and its practice, often fraught with personal sacrifice, requires the performance of duty for the good of humanity.”

— Forms and Traditions of the Scottish Rite by C. Fred Kleinknecht, 33°
This is one of the few ceremonies conducted by the Scottish Rite that is open to the public. Scottish Rite Masons, Master Masons and their wives or ladies and friends are invited to attend. RSVP is still requested for dinner. In keeping with the dignity inherent to this event alcohol will not be served prior to the dinner at 6 pm.

Rememberance and Renewal

We will be celebrating the Scottish Rite “Ceremony of Remembrance & Renewal” on March 11, 2014.

26
This Celebration is neither the Feast of the Passover nor a Sacrament of Holy Communion, although it commemorates the spirit of both days. To our Jewish Brethren it signifies the Feast of the Passover. To our Christian Brethren it signifies the Last Supper. To our Brethren of the Rose Croix it is known as the Mystic Banquet.

How long have we been performing this Ceremony? In times past we celebrated Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday Services. In 1994 it was deemed appropriate that a Scottish Rite nonobligatory, non religious “Celebration of Remembrance & Renewal” be performed near the vernal equinox (the first day of Spring).

It is hard to conceive of any Masonic Ritual more beautiful or inspiring. We meet together to break the bread of fraternity, to reconcile ourselves with those we have offended, and to drink the wine of refreshment and renewal. This year we will be “Memorializing” our recently departed Brethren.

We hope you will join us for an excellent meal, beautiful harp music, and an “Inspiring” Ceremony to honor our recently departed Brethren.
